After years of neglect, a group of developers got together to develop a vacant rail yard in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Upon receiving TIFF funding, the project was approved which kickstarted the design phase.
This large mixed-use project comprised of, a big box retail component, commercial as well as two residential components. The big box retail was rented by Aldi and Target., We also restored the existing terracotta shopfront façade to house various smaller retail stores and restaurants.
For the residential components, we added two buildings for 179 affordable housing units and a car parking garage that could hold 400 vehicles.
The project included a multiplex theater above the big box retail space, but that was later removed from the design phase. The project has been completed and is LEED-certified.
The Architect of Record for this project is FitzGerald Associates Architects. Architect Shabbir Chandabhai was a part of the design team during his tenure with FitzGerald from 2003 to 2008.
