This Lincoln Park gem was once owned by an artist and art collector who worked with Louis Sullivan on the Carson Pirie Scott building in Chicago. The new owners decided to restore and renovate the existing two flat to convert the 1st, 2nd and partial basement into their private residence and rent out the other half of the basement as an in-law unit to local students.
BURHANIDESIGN recreated the floor plans to work more efficiently for the young family. We added a separate entrance from the front sidewalk for the rental section of the basement so that both residences could have complete privacy and freedom.
We created a 2 bed-1 bath rental unit in the basement, and a large 4 bedroom 3.5 bath above. The permit was received relatively quickly. The project was planned, designed, permitted and work completed within 6 months, and the owners were delighted. This has become one of our examples to prove how a short well-planned project can benefit the owners.
