When you add new extensions to your home, you want it to fit seamlessly into the existing structure. We were commissioned to design a home addition on an existing cedar house. The addition comprised of a formal living and dining room on the 1st floor, a master bedroom suite on the 2nd floor, and an in-law apartment in the basement.

This home addition presented a unique challenge: how could we connect all three levels of the house seamlessly so that the family could enjoy access to all areas? We also wanted it to have a smooth aesthetic flow so that the new additions were indistinguishable from the older parts of the house.

The house is a beautiful cedar house in the suburbs, surrounded by a vast expanse of lush landscape. In discussion with the family, we suggested making the most of the abundant natural light and fresh air through multiple ways.

We built a new sunroom connected to the kitchen and dining area, and added access to the patio from the living room. We added a hot tub and a large deck on the south side, in addition to the sun room. This offered plenty of options for family leisure time as well as great hosting options for guests.

The use of bay windows and skylights ensured that the house was well-lit and airy at all times. The interiors are a fusion of contemporary and traditional themes to suit all members of the family. BURHANIDESIGN worked on the architectural design and interior space planning for this project.
